The most common symptom of sleep apnea is snoring. However, not every sleep apnea sufferer snores. Snoring is a sign of a sleep apnea when it is followed by silent breathing pauses and gasping or choking sounds.

 Common symptoms to look for sleep apnea include:

  • Silent pauses in breathing

  • Daytime fatigue

  • Loud or frequent snoring

  • Insomnia

  • Morning headaches

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Memory loss

  • Decreased sexual desire

  • Irritability

 

Sleep apnea symptoms in women are different than in men. The common symptoms of sleep apnea such as snoring, gasping arousals and drowsiness are better predictors of sleep apnea in men than in women. Some of the common symptoms of sleep apnea in women include:

  • Insomnia

  • Restlessness in legs

  • Tired or fatigue

  • Depression

  • Daytime sleepiness

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Frequent urination at night

  • Night sweats

  • Heartburn at night

  • A feeling of being overwhelmed
